Recollections A5 Planner Setup & What Went Wrong

I did, and still do love my Recollections Planner. But all the love in the world can’t help a planner system that isn’t working.

Let me start by saying that I love my Recollections A5 Planner. When I got done setting it up, it was exactly what I hoped it would be. I loved the colors, and the dividers turned out perfect (my first try at making them with my Silhouette machine).

But it didn’t work. As much as I loved everything about it, it just wasn’t making my life easier.

Fixing What Doesn’t Work

I’ve been a dedicated Happy Planner fan for almost a year. For me, that is just unheard of.

When I started making my own planners, I would only do them 4-5 months in advance because I knew I would be bored with the colors and wanting to try something new by the time I got to the end of it.

And I was ALWAYS right.

So to say that I used a Happy Planner (or multiples) for a year is amazing.

I can’t really tell you what changed, because I don’t know. I still love the Happy Planners and all the beautiful stickers, but they just don’t work for me right now.

So I tried something new: Recollections ring-bound A5 planner (this link goes to a slightly different color than mine, it was the closest I could find). It was beautiful, and it still is. But the same way Happy Planners weren’t working for me, neither was this.

I eventually made my way over to the Bullet Journal. I needed to go back to the basics of planning, and actually plan. And so far that has been exactly what I needed.

But this isn’t about my bullet journal. That is a story for another post.

And because I really love my Recollections planner, I still wanted to share it with you. Because it doesn’t matter what works for me, it matters what works for you. I really want to share with you as many planner types as I can. Plus it is just convenient that my “Planner ADD” allows me to try many different planners so I can give you all the pros and cons of different systems.

My dashboard. The silver polka dots came with the Recollections planner. It is actually gold on the other side, but the silver went with the rest of my tabs and decorations better.

I made the “believe” clip with a decal that I got at Hobby Lobby, then I just hot glued it to a paperclip.

The camera card is from either Project Life or one of the other companies that makes cards like that… Sorry, I don’t remember which kit it came in.

My monthly pages came from PenGems.com. They were dated for 2015, so I made date stickers to cover the old dates. All the other stickers are just ones that I made specifically to fit in these calendar boxes.

At the top is another Project Life style card.

These daily inserts came from Rogue Crusade. They’ve got so many varieties of daily, weekly, monthly, and other printable pages. My favorite daily pages ever! They are super cute and affordable!!

I wanted to use this as a wallet, so I bought some Filofax business card holders and RFID blocking credit card sleeves. The business card holders are extremely well made! There are 8 pockets per sleeve, 4 on each side. So you don’t have to try and fit 2 cards in each slot (if you have a lot of cards like I do…). I was even able to fit the RFID blocking sleeve inside the pocket.

So there you have it: my beautiful Recollections Planner. I might go back to it someday. It’s all just a matter of finding what works best at the moment. 🙂
